John Berardi Nutrition Tip #14

Posted by admin on 14th October 2008

Protein for Fat Burning
by Dr. John Berardi

Protein is by far the most thermogenic of the macronutrients (protein, carbohydrate, and fat). Due to the high metabolic costs of processing it, protein provides fewer storable kcal. The thermic effect of a mixed meal is about 10% of intake, while the thermic effect of protein per se is more like 25-30%. That could mean reving up your metabolism by 200 kcal just from your 200-gram (800 kcal) protein intake.

KISS and Program Design

Posted by admin on 10th October 2008

The KISS principle should be at the front of your mind when you are designing your training programs. By keeping it simple, you are more likely to focus on the most productive exercises and incorporate functional progression schemes and less likely to waste time time and energy on exercises and training schemes that don’t give you good bang for your buck. Some Kiss guidelines would be to focus on compound movements, minimise the use of machines and incorporate an appropriate method of progression into the program.
