I had a kick a** workout today. It was quiet in the gym, so I had free reign of the equipment. This meant that I could actually do the exercises I wanted to instead of the ones that I was “expecting” to.
After the session, I walked downstairs to Atom Boy (a sushi train) for my favourite post training meal. I think sushi post training is great, it has lots of fast carbs and easily digested protein and of course tastes amazing.

I was talking to one of my collegues yesterday and he was telling me about his disappointing attempts at building muscle. After quizzing him about it, I found out that he was only doing upper body work which included lots of chest, shoulder and arm work and very little for his back. Given what he was doing and not doing, it is not a big surprise that he didn’t get the type of results (any) that he was looking for.
If you don’t include compound exercises for your quads and hips and if you focus on small muscle groups like the arms and shoulders at the expense of the large groups like your back, it is unlikely that your body will respond by packing on the muscle.
Even with the huge amount of information that is available online, many people still don’t know how to put together a good basic training program that will help them build some muscle. The bottom line is if you are in the same position as my collegue, get a trainer to design a program for you.
