Training Tip – Mixing Up Your Training

Posted by admin on 20th June 2008

Although most people do either full body training or some type of split program, this doesn’t mean that you can’t combine the two in one training week. An example of this would be doing a lower body workout on Monday, a upper body workout on Tuesday or Wednesday and a full-body workout on Friday. This effective type of program is useful if you have time constraints, you are moving to or from a split program or just want a change to your workout routine.

Visualisation for Size and Strength

Posted by admin on 18th June 2008

The use of visualisation is recognised as an integral part of high level training in many sporting activities. Bodybuilders and strength athletes of all levels can also take advantage of this technique. Simply put, visualisation is developing a mental image of yourself. This image can be of you training with a PR at your next workout, posing on stage in a bodybuilding competition, performing a record strength feat or any other situation.

There are a variety of approaches you can take when you are visualising. One approach is to actually see yourself from an outside perspective – this could be an image of yourself as you want to be – bigger and stronger or you could see yourself performing an action whether this is in the gym or at a competition.

Another is to visualise yourself actually performing, again this could be at the gym or at a competition – feeling your muscles, seeing the sights, hearing the music, crowd or the gym noises – everything that you would actually feel in that situation. The goal is to use as many of your senses as possible when you visualise.

Give it a go – you might be surprised at the results.
