Training DVDs

Posted by admin on 17th April 2008

Since Pumping Iron with Arnold, Lou and Franco etc. came out in the 1970’s, body building and strength training instructional videos have become big business. The number available on the market today is amazing.

If you want to incorporate a new training method (e.g Charles Staley’s EDT, or Ironman’s POF) or new piece of equipment (e.g kettlebells or sandbags) into your training, DVD’s are an excellent resource.

Nearly every professional bodybuilder today has been featured in at least one training DVD. Seeing your favourite bodybuilder or strength athlete in action can get you fired up for training and can improve your training knowledge and exercise performance. A number of professional contests are also available and these can help you improve your own performance. A few bodybuilding and strength magazines have also made their own DVDs which address a variety of training and competition issues.

Training DVDs are a great way to help you reach your size and strength goals. If you are interested in seeing some of the DVD’s that are available, you can check out a number of them here.

This is a great quote from former IFFB pro Markus Ruhl.

The most important lesson I’ve learned is that the most productive exercises are simple and compound.”

Fallback Exercises

Posted by admin on 15th April 2008

Not all gyms have multiple stations of every piece of equipment. The one I train at is a case in point. Like many gyms in Japan, there are plenty of pieces of cardio equipment, a few resistance machine stations and a tiny free weight section. On days like today when I train after work, if I don’t have a fallback option for each exercise in my program, my training session would probably take all evening. Not being able to use the equipment you want is annoying but in some gyms it is just a fact of training. Don’t let it disrupt your focus and your workout – if what you want is not available and won’t be free for a while, go straight to your fallback exercise and go for it.
