Last Minute Xmas Gifts

Muscle and Strength Xmas Gifts

With only a couple of days left to Xmas, I thought I would put together a short list of gift ideas for the muscle and strength crowd.

A recent release by one of my favorite training authors is Huge in a Hurry by Chad Waterbury. Chad really knows his stuff and if you want a gift for the bodybuilder this is great.

Men’s Health Power Training: Build Bigger, Stronger Muscles with through Performance-based Conditioningby Robert Dos Remedios is a great book on building size and strength using performance based training rather than the traditional bodybuilding approach.

For the female that really wants to learn how to train, it would be very hard to go past The New Rules of Lifting for Women: Lift Like a Man, Look Like a Goddess

For nutritional guidance, Precision Nutrition by John Berardi and Naked Nutriton by Mike Roussell are both excellent nutrition guides and everybody should have at least one of them.John is in the process of re-releasing his Precision Nutrition system, so this could be a great option.

My top vote for a toy for the muscle and strength crowd would be a Powerball. These things are great fun and give your forearms a serious workout.

So there you go, my list of great last minute xmas gifts for the musclehead.

Have a great holiday season!!!!!

What is your Rep Max?

Posted by admin on 16th November 2008

Rather that stating a specific weight, many training programs will state a xRep Max  or xRM e.g. 6RM. So what does this mean?

In simple terms a Rep Max or RM is an way of selecting the weight you use, in this case you use as much weight as possible for a set number of reps. For example a 6RM means a you choose a load that you will be able to do 6 times (but not 7)in good form. One of the major advantages to using this system is that it is self regulating e.g. if you are feeling strong, you adjust the weight being used up accordingly. If however you had a late night and aren’t feeling your best, you can adjust the weight down for that particular workout.

Anatomy FAQ

Posted by admin on 15th July 2008

Laree over at IronOnline has posted a short but very useful FAQ on human anatomy that is relevant to the weight trainer. If you are training, I think that is is important to have at least a basic understanding of human anatomy.  Check it out here.
