Bodybuilding Magazines – Some Random Thoughts
I don’t often buy bodybuilding magazines but I do enjoy reading them occasionally.
As a treat (international magazines are generally expensive in Japan,) I bought a couple on the weekend. I like most people generally find magazines to be inspirational and motivating and you can usually find some good info in them. One of the downsides of magazines is the number and type of ads. The ads that I take most offence to are the ones that masquerade as articles or reports and the ones that intimate that by taking this supplement you will look like “add whatever famous bodybuilder you want”. The other problem that you can come across is that some of the articles detail training routines that are not appropriate of the average non-drug, non-genetically lucky bodybuilder.
The mags I bought are US editions and it is interesting to compare them to the Australian mags that I received earlier this year. Although they are different editions, the Australian magazines don’t appear to have nearly as many report/article type ads as the US editions and without being able to compare both versions of the one edition, (this is something that I would like to do in the future), it appears that the total number of ads is lower in the Australian editions.
