Exercise Workshop – The Suitcase Deadlift

The suitcase deadlift is a great “old school” exercise. This is really a “full body” pulling exercise that also works the legs, obliques and shoulder stabilisers.

As always when training and especially when working deads or squats ensure that you brace the abs and fire the glutes. You can use a dumbbell or a barbell in each hand but I prefer to use just one barbell for this exercise. There is a bit of a learning curve with this exercise, you need to balance the bar and balance yourself throughout the movement, so start off light and work up.
