Movement Pattern Vs Bodypart Based Workouts
Posted by admin on November 28th, 2007
There are a number of basic approaches in relation to workouts and exercise selection. The primary choices are to base your workouts on movement patterns or base them on bodyparts.
So what makes more sense – dividing the body up into a list of separate bodyparts or dividing it in terms of the movement patterns that the body naturally performs. To me, it is more logical to organise your workout based on movement patterns. So does this mean you should never do bodypart splits – of course not, I think for more advanced bodybuilders they definitely have their place.
So what are these movement patterns:
- horizontal push
- horizontal pull
- vertical push
- vertical pull
- quad dominant
- hip dominant
- core
Whether you are doing a full body or a split, if you decide to try this approach, you should be hitting each pattern at least once a week.
