Training – Keep It Simple

Posted by admin on July 18th, 2008

When people ask for a program to be designed, a percentage want to be given the most advanced, high tech training program available, when what they really need is a relatively “simple”, well designed program catered to their training age.

What do I mean by this? I think that people are always looking for the latest thing or the edge to give them the results they are after. They want to be doing something new and interesting all the time. Having some variety is not wrong but using advanced or other inappropriate techniques at the wrong stage of your training life, can come at the expense of the foundational strength and size gains you would receive from a program that is more appropriate to you.

In relation to training age, just because you have been doing weights for 5 years, it doesn’t mean that you have a training age of 5 years. Depending on the progress you have made, the resistance you are using and the program progression you have gone through, your training age could be anything from 6 months to 5 years. It is important to remember that programs should be tailored to you, not be based on what some bodybuilding superstar is doing.
